Vessel Sinks Part of Your Bathroom Decor

One of the newer design features in bathroom remodeling is the addition of vessel sinks. These types of sinks almost resemble an antique wash basin. These antique sinks were kept in a bathing area if there was one in the house, if not, the sink was put on some type of nightstand or dresser. Thank heavens we have progressed in design since then. The more popular style of sinks even just a few years ago were made from either ceramic or porcelain. Your choices ended there. Now we are seeing beautiful sinks crafted from copper, brass, marble, glass, or even fine china. Artisan glass vessel sinks are handmade insuring each one is unique. These sinks along with tempered glass sinks go through a high temperature curing process which strengthens the glass.

There are many different shapes that vessel sinks come in.  Some of the shapes included in the most popular vessel sinks are round, oval, fluted, and square.  Most of these sinks come in a variety of colors with the except of the artisan glass vessel sinks.  If you can find a shop in your area that sells fused glass they can probably give you the name of someone that can handcraft a fused glass sink with your specific color scheme. 

One of the great things about these types of sinks is that they can be installed into your current bathroom vanity unit or if you are remodeling your bathroom, pick up a beautiful piece of furniture and have your vessel sink installed on top of the furniture piece.  That would truly be unique.  Normally a glass vessel sink doesn't require a large hole to be cut into any cabinet or furniture piece.

One of the things to consider if young children are going to using this type of sink is the depth and width of the sink.  Will they be able to reach over the edge of the sink to wash their hands or brush their teeth?  Can they reach over the top of the sink to turn on the faucet?  This may also be something to think about if you are getting a pedestal type sink.  Can they reach the top of the sink and over it? 

When you are shopping around for your vessel sink, please make sure and check to see if the surface of the sink will scratch or will need extra care when cleaning it.  Just to be safe it is always advisable to use a gentle cleaner or a soft cloth soaked in vinegar to clean your sink.  Using something like steel wool (sos pads), abrasive cleaners (like comet or ajax)  or even some chemical cleaners could possibly cause damage to the finish resulting in destroying a beautiful piece of your bathroom decor. 

No matter which type of sink your ultimately decide on for your remodeled bathroom, you can get a very fashionable high end type of look for less if you are willing to do some research both online and possible visiting plumbing retailers in your city.

All in all, once you decide on your high end vessel sink and install it in your bathroom, any of your guests will be envious of your updated bathroom style.
